Do you have a chisel handle burst or a spade holder breaks off? Do not rush to the nearest store. Thanks to the design, which is easy to do with your own hands, in the garage or in the pantry there is a piece of stick for processing.
To make the fixture, you will need two pieces of metal with a thickness of about 6 mm. We cut off the plates a little longer than the regular jaws of a bench vise. But we leave the height the same. Next, we fix the resulting pads.
After that we take two corners. They should be five centimeters longer than the plates. We make cuts, with the help of a grinder we remove the corner parts.
We hammer out everything that is not needed with a hammer, cut off the excess with a drill and clean it. Cut the ends of the corners at 45 degrees. It turns out a Z-shaped edge.
The main stages of work
In the next step, you will need to make cutting edges at the corners. The master grinds them with a grinder (you can also grind them on emery). We connect both parts to a square. We carefully check the connection lines so that there is no bias.
We grab by welding to new false jaws for a vice. We turn the vise across the table so that the cutters themselves are directed towards the master. Now you can start processing the workpiece.
We sharpen one end of a wooden bar on a cone. At the end of the other side, you need to screw the mandrel with screws: a bar with a welded area. Combine in the centerline. The mandrel is placed in the drill chuck. Screwing the vise, we achieve the desired diameter of the handle.
