If you need to make a simple compact wood splitter quickly and inexpensively, then you can make a design from a profile pipe. Also for this homemade product you will need several pieces of a building corner and other piece of iron.
The first step is to cut into the size of the workpiece. In this case, profile pipes of rectangular section 25 * 28 mm (but you can also use a square section profile). We make two identical frames of a square shape.
Cut off the blanks (eight pieces) 25 cm long and weld from them first one square, and then the second. However, in this design, you can do some refinement.
For example, in order not to accidentally injure your fingers, you need to make the upper square of the profile smaller. The design itself should be in the form of a truncated cone.
The main stages of work
Next, to the first square frame (the base of the splitter), it is necessary to weld 2 vertical posts on the sides - at a right angle. In this case, a profile pipe of 20x40 mm is used, but you can take a profile of a different size.
We weld the second square to the top of the profile pipes. For greater reliability of the structure in its lower part (at the base of the uprights) we weld small jibs from the profile.
At the last stage of work, we produce the cutting knife itself. We will do it from axes. To do this, cut four axes from the handles, and then weld them to the steel profile. On the sides of this, we reinforce an additional two pieces of the profile pipe.
