I fell into the hands of an old forged ax. In this review we will try to restore it. The job is not the easiest, but a good master can do everything. We will begin the process of restoring the old forged ax by cleaning the metal from dirt and rust.
We knock out the rest of the wooden ax. Then we perform rough cleaning with a brush for metal. After that, brush off the dust with an ordinary brush. Next, you will need to take water procedures. Immerse the ax in a special solution to remove rust. You can also take regular Coca-Cola or table vinegar.
We rinse the ax with clean water, and then wipe it dry with a rag. After that, we grind the metal using a flap wheel for the grinder. First, grind the outside, and then inside the ax eye.
Reconstruction Stages
After grinding the old forged ax, we proceed to the production of the ax. To do this, first cut off a suitable sized wooden block. Then we attach a template to it (it can be cut out of cardboard) and outline the contours of the future hatchet.
Using a grinder with a petal circle, we bring the handle to mind - we round it and give it the desired shape. You can, of course, manually process it, but it will take more time. At the next stage of work, we sharpen the blade, and then we plant the ax on the ax.
