Handles for files and chisels can be inexpensively bought ready-made in a store or on the market. Put the file on, and you're done! But why not do it yourself? If desired, even beautiful log handles can be made from ordinary logs.
For simple wooden handles to become truly original, an epoxy resin with a hardener is required. The combination of natural wood and epoxy gives a stunning visual effect.
The main stages of work
First, we dissolve a log suitable for the length into small sticks, from which we will then make original handles for files. This operation can be performed on a circular saw or band saw.
Next, we drill holes in the wooden blanks for the file shank, after which we cut out two triangular wedges on one side (in different planes). We make "formwork" from plastic lining or other materials.
We mix the epoxy resin with the hardener, add the dye and fill the wooden blocks. After the epoxy hardens, we disassemble the one-time “formwork”. Then we process the handles on a belt grinder, giving it a round shape.
At the next stage, we process the workpieces on a lathe. We make crimp rings for them from copper or brass. Then we put the finished handles on files. The result is really amazing.
