I always use coconut oil as an ingredient for soaps and creams. Usually ordered via the Internet, but recently decided to try to make the oil yourself.
Coconut Acquisition
A lot is being written about the benefits of coconut oil, I do not want to repeat myself.
They bought coconuts in Lenta, one piece cost 74 rubles, the next day they saw a coconut in Magnet, 20 rubles cheaper ...
Following the recommendations from the Internet, I chose dark coconuts when buying (there were no others), a gurgle should be clearly audible. The nuts were about the same size.
How i opened coconut
There were plenty of ways to open a coconut, I watched several workshops, most of them are very boring and overloaded with unnecessary information, but some were funny. I chose a way where you first need to pierce these same "eyes."
She prepared an awl, you can use a nail, only then will I need a hammer. I decided to cut with a hacksaw so that the cut would be even, then from the shell you can make a cool souvenir!
Stocked up with newspapers, nuts were very "hairy." A couple of bowls, a mixer, gauze or a sieve (small), a glass where you will pour milk are also useful.
I took the awl and began to poke into the "eyes", only one succumbed, and I broke the tip of the awl - it just bent and fell off (to the floor, not inside). With a broken awl, she was already tearing a hole so that it was wider, it was not difficult. The contents of the nut poured out quite easily through one hole, but two would be even faster.
The water in the glass was with a piece of coconut, it must be filtered before further use.
I didn’t like the taste of coconut milk, I find it difficult to describe it, try it better yourself ...
"Saw, Shura, saw" ...
Then she took a hacksaw, began to saw approximately in the middle. It succumbed quite easily, there were enough scraps, but they do not fly in the air, everything falls apart. It took me a few minutes, given that I often straightened the hacksaw so that the cut turned out to be even.
Opening the nut, she saw that the flesh was stained, which was to be expected. I cleaned the brown dust with a knife, it cleans well. The coconut flavor came fabulous, I liked it.
Pulp processing
The longest thing was to get the pulp and peel the skin from it. It took about an hour to complete the whole process of oil preparation.
She sent the cleaned pulp to a blender, chopped it. If you wish, you can stop at this, add the pulp to the pastries or eat right. I really liked the taste, it seems that you eat nut and fruit at the same time.
One way to get oil
The pulp is soaked in warm water, left for a short while. Some boil, but I did not. Then she squeezed it through cheesecloth and cleaned the bowl with the resulting liquid in the refrigerator.
The remaining pulp (though it is quite hard, the nut is still) must be dried, and can be used in baking. I made cookies - it turned out very tasty!
That's all, in a day you can get the cherished bowl. White dense oil will float on the surface, it must be caught and removed in a container.
Total. Honestly, there is so little oil that you need to do about a dozen nuts at a time to produce a noticeable amount. It might be worth trying out other ways. I did not begin to throw out the water that was standing, I use it as a hair mask and body milk, it nourishes just fine.
Whether or not to take coconut oil at home is up to you to decide, but it was interesting for me to try, maybe I will repeat it somehow!
